High-speed Broadband for Nafferton!
|
It should mean an end to coping with painfully slow downloads, and with buffering BBC I-Player! “Streaming” will not be a problem.
It should allow children, or anyone else, to play online games without persistently losing connection.
It should make Nafferton an attractive prospect for those who wish to run a business from the Village, or to live here and work from home. They will enjoy a speed and quality of service comparable with that offered in the centre of our major cities.
We certainly need better broadband, and we expect to get it soon!

PROPOSAL FOR A VILLAGE ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT AS PART OF THE 2012 JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS.
|
Brian Hawe, a keen archaeologist who has recently moved to our village writes;
The project would require a number of village families to volunteer to dig a small investigative test pit in an area of their choice within the boundaries of their own property. The excavations would, for consistency, need to all be of the same size (to be determined) but 1m x 1m x 60 cms. is considered an appropriate size. Once volunteers are available the areas within the village covered by the project can be determined, a day for digging to take place decided and the back-up infrastructure, i.e. recording, identification and conserving, arranged to complement the project size.
This is something that everyone is able to take part in and could be a good educational and informative time for family participation.

NEW HISTORY OF NAFFERTON IN PREPARATION
|
With the support and encouragement of the Parochial Church Council and others, historian and Nafferton resident Dr Stephen Harrison is preparing a new book on the history of the parish. This will be a comprehensive, fully illustrated account, providing the first detailed and systematically researched history of the village and parish from prehistoric times to the present day. Much information has already been gathered, but Stephen would be very interested to hear from anyone who may have photographs and details about more recent times in Nafferton, as well as documentation relating to the village’s older properties, farms, and families. Any such material will only be used with permission and will, of course, be fully acknowledged. He can be contacted via the village website by using our 'Contact us' form:- click here

Beal Homes progress
|
East Yorkshire house builder Beal Homes reports that forty per cent of the homes planned for The Nunings, in the Wolds village of Nafferton, are now sold.
Buyers include West Yorkshire couple Kathryn and Stephen Chappell. Kathryn, a retired head teacher, says, “Nafferton’s countryside setting so close to the wonderful East Yorkshire coast was what really appealed to us.
“The Nunings has a good variety of houses built in keeping with the rural character of the village. We had a positive feeling about it from the start, and, now that we’ve made the move we’re really looking forward to getting involved in village life.”
With plenty to see and do in the area, including the seaside resort of Bridlington, a children’s animal farm, historic Burton Agnes Hall and nearby Sledmere House, the Chappell’s are also looking forward to having their daughter and grand daughter to stay.

This time of year we tend to suffer from irresponsible owners who let their dogs poo on the streets of Nafferton. The Parish Council had the council dog warden attend one of our meetings to let us know what they can do about it. If you spot dog muck please let us know so we can try and put a stop to it....
